We hear a lot about simplifying things. Sometimes urging people to simplify means to back off and not make waves. Don't push the envelope. Don't get out of our lane.
But I think it means to clear away the distraction and the fear. Our student-led Protect Life team follows this plan. Our team seeks first to understand, then to be understood.
"Back in the day", Glen Campbell was one of the most successful recording artists. But not everyone knew what a great technical guitar player he was, even before becoming famous.
In his seventies just after finishing his last album he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. He still went out to tour one last time with his daughter, two of his sons, and a few more musicians. Sometimes he forgot the words to his songs, but when it was time play the guitar, he still had it in him.
Today, I'm including the lyrics to a simple little song he recorded decades ago that kind of speaks to the process on our team. I'm also including a short video of one of the stops in that last tour. You'll find it at the top of this page.
"If you see your brother standing by the road
With a heavy load from the seeds he sowed
And if you see your sister falling by the way
Just stop and say, 'You're going the wrong way'
You've got to try a little kindness
Yes, show a little kindness
Just shine your light for everyone to see
And if you try a little kindness
Then you'll overlook the blindness
Of narrow-minded people on the narrow-minded streets
Don't walk around the down and out
Lend a helping hand instead of doubt
And the kindness that you show every day
Will help someone along their way
You got to try a little kindness
Yes, show a little kindness
Just shine your light for everyone to see
And if you try a little kindness
Then you'll overlook the blindness
Of narrow-minded people on the narrow-minded streets"
We try to keep things simple in the pro life movement. "Try a little kindness."
